The Girl and The Audience - Ghinwa Fayyad

November 28, 2021 at 4:03 pm, No comments

Summary: This poem has been written in the form of a conversation between a female and an audience. The female is represented as a person with an intellectual infection who appears as ‘hopeless’ where the audience attempts to sympathize together along with her and tries to romanticize her emotions. In any form of production, it’s usually the male that stands out in saving the female character. In our society today, which is converting each day where females are trying to gain their voice again, romanticizing is not an option nor is allowing other people to make her appear as a person much less than what she really is or capable of. For instance, Netflix productions still portray females with intellectual ailments as a person who wishes to save.

Extra info

The 'It' Girl in Distress Zine was created for the class On Television (MCOM 223), but has turned into a lot more than that. It is now a zine full of fruitful ideas, creative outlets, and overall a place for exploration of ideas and evoking thoughts on the representation of women in Netflix.
