Glorification of Mental Illness: The Effect of Netflix on Teen’s Mental Health - By Hisham Hilal

November 28, 2021 at 5:26 pm, No comments

Summary: In this short essay, the glorification of mental illness is put into perspective, especially in regards to the effect of said glorification on impressionable teenagers. The text explains how the representation of such characters on several Netflix shows inflicts harm on young viewers who learn to romanticize mentally ill characters. This is mainly due to the fact that they are in turn being glamorized by the media, influencing the opinion of viewers, taking on their characteristics, and putting on a romanticized facade as an aftermath.
